About

New Energy is proud to be chosen to deliver the Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical works for the Ruakākā Solar Farm — one of New Zealand’s largest solar projects.

The solar farm, owned by Meridian Energy, will generate 230GWh of clean, renewable energy, helping to power homes and businesses while supporting New Zealand’s transition to a sustainable future. With around 250,000 solar panels installed, the site will cover an area equivalent to 170 rugby fields — a remarkable contribution to New Zealand’s renewable energy capacity. Importantly, the solar farm will be connected to the existing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on site, enabling more reliable, flexible, and resilient clean energy supply.

We are working alongside Ethical Power New Zealand, who are the EPC contractor for the project. Together, we are ensuring that the project is built to the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance.

As the lead contractor for end-to-end delivery of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical works, New Energy is excited not only about the project’s contribution to renewable energy but also about the opportunities it brings to the Northland region. This project will create valuable local work opportunities strengthening the community as well as the energy grid.

The Ruakākā Solar Farm is scheduled for completion in 2027, marking a major milestone in New Zealand’s renewable energy journey.
