New Energy delivered the electrical reticulation for Mercury Energy’s Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm, located 15 km southeast of Gore in Southland, in collaboration with ElectroNet.
The wind farm consists of 10 turbines and is expected to generate an average of 148 GWh of renewable electricity annually—enough to power more than 20,000 homes or charge around 66,000 electric vehicles each year. This project plays a vital role in boosting New Zealand’s renewable electricity generation.
Working through challenging, rocky terrain, New Energy completed nearly 7 km of trenching to install the electrical and fibre cabling connecting the turbines across the site.
Kaiwera Downs marks New Energy’s second wind farm project, following the successful delivery of the Waipipi Wind Farm in 2020.
