Located 12 km north-west of Dargaville and just 3 km inland from the Tasman Sea, Mercury’s Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm is set to capture the strong, consistent wind currents of New Zealand’s west coast.
The wind farm will feature 12 state-of-the-art turbines, with seven in the northern cluster and five in the southern cluster of the development. These will be the largest and tallest turbines ever installed in Aotearoa, marking a significant milestone for the country’s renewable energy landscape.
Initial power generation to the national grid is expected to begin by mid-2026, with full generation capacity achieved by the end of 2026.
New Energy’s Drillco team will lead the electrical reticulation works on site, installing over 50 kilometres of underground cable to connect the turbines and infrastructure.
This marks New Energy’s third wind farm project, following the successful delivery of the Waipipi Wind Farm in 2020 and Kaiwera Downs in 2023—further cementing our expertise in large-scale renewable energy construction across New Zealand.
